Coalition based approach for shop floor agility – a multiagent approach
Dissertation submitted for a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, speciality of Robotics and Integrated Manufacturing from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências e TecnologiaThis thesis addresses the problem of shop floor agility. In order to cope with the disturbances and uncertainties that characterise the current business scenarios faced by manufacturing companies, the
capability of their shop floors needs to be improved quickly, such that these shop floors may be adapted, changed or become easily modifiable (shop floor reengineering).
One of the critical elements in any shop floor reengineering process is the way the control/supervision architecture is changed or modified to accommodate for the new processes and equipment. This thesis,
therefore, proposes an architecture to support the fast adaptation or changes in the control/supervision architecture. This architecture postulates that manufacturing systems are no more than compositions of
modularised manufacturing components whose interactions when aggregated are governed by
contractual mechanisms that favour configuration over reprogramming.
A multiagent based reference architecture called Coalition Based Approach for Shop floor Agility – CoBASA, was created to support fast adaptation and changes of shop floor control architectures with minimal effort. The coalitions are composed of agentified manufacturing components (modules), whose relationships within the coalitions are governed by contracts that are configured whenever a coalition is established. Creating and changing a coalition do not involve programming effort because it only requires changes to the contract that regulates it
The objectives of this study were to describe and compare the anthropometric profile, physical fitness and soccer-specific skills between under-15 and under-17 Brazilian soccer players, as well as to evaluate possible differences in these variables according to biological maturation in the age categories. The sample consisted of 245 male soccer players (under-15: n=161; under-17: n=84). Anthropometric measures included weight, height and skinfolds. Biological maturation was assessed based on pubic hair development. The following tests were used for functional assessment: static and countermovement jump, Yo-Yo intermittent endurance test (level 2), RAST, 5- and 30-meter running speed, and agility T-test. Soccer-specific skills were assessed using three tests: ball control, dribbling, and kick accuracy. Descriptive statistics, t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for statistical analysis. The results showed a larger body size (stature and body mass), longer sports experience (years of formal training) and better performance in most of the functional tests for under-17 soccer players compared to under-15 players. There were no significant differences in adiposity or soccer-specific skills between levels of competition. Significant differences as a function of maturation stage were observed in anthropometric and functional variables only in the under-15 category. In conclusion, the under-17 category differs from the under-15 category in terms of anthropometric and physical fitness characteristics. However, no difference was observed in two of the three soccer-specific skills. Physical fitness components and soccer-specific skills were associated with maturity only in the under-15 category. As medidas antropométricas incluíram a massa corporal, a estatura e as dobras cutâneas.
Morfološki in funkcionalni vidiki razvoja mladih športnikov.
There is a strong link between maturational development
and growth and performance. Organising age groups
according to the criteria of chronological age leads to
a big difference in size, composition and performance,
and adolescence is the period when these differences
are more visible with the ages between 13 and 15 years
appearing to be the most heterogeneous period. In the
same age group, maturationally more advanced subjects
are generally heavier and taller than their peers of the
same chronological age from childhood to the end of
their adolescence. However, adults do not usually reveal
the same differences when the same comparison is
made. This situation can be explained by the catch up
phenomenon in late-maturing individuals.
The initial process for identifying promising athletes is
multidimensional and the literature in the area shows
that growth and maturation are two important concepts
allowing a better understanding of the identification,
selection and development processes of young athletes.
Young soccer players tend to be above the mean for
height and mass and tend to have an advanced biological
maturity status with increasing age during adolescence
and in elite development programmes. Worst results have
been reported for body size and functional performance
in young soccer players who were not selected to play
in more demanding competitions or who had dropped
out from sport. The same trend was visible in academy players who were not offered a professional contract.
Despite the lack of evidence that at the beginning of
the process the anthropometrical, maturational and
physical characteristics are not directly associated with
an exceptional performance in adulthood, it is of interest
to understand that these indicators may open the doors
of academies and other training centres of excellence
promoting better conditions and better coaching for
select players. Recently, decennial differences were not
found in the entrance profile of soccer players in a club
academy. This finding suggests that the sport (soccer)
promotional strategies are being maintained despite
the increased demandingness of professional players’
anthropometric characteristics and the demands of
actual professional soccer competitions.Med zrelostnim razvojem, rastjo in uspešnostjo obstaja
močna povezava. Oblikovanje starostnih skupin po
merilu kronološke starosti vodi v velike razlike v
velikosti, telesni zgradbi in uspešnosti, adolescenca
V enaki
starostni skupini so zrelejši člani od otroštva do konca
adolescence na splošno težji in višji od svojih sovrstnikov
enake kronološke starosti. Vendar se pri odraslih pri
enaki primerjavi običajno ne pokažejo enake razlike. To
razumevanje procesov identifikacije, selekcije in razvoja
glede velikosti telesa in funkcionalne uspešnosti so
niso bile ponujene profesionalne pogodbe. Kljub
igralce. Zadnje raziskave niso pokazale večjih razlik v
The study examined the presence of the relative age effect (RAE) and association between birth quartile and anthropometry, biological maturation and physical and technical performance of young Brazilian soccer players. The sample included 119 male players, 74 of U-15 category and 45 of U-17 category, which were divided into quartiles according
to the birth year. Biological maturation was assessed using the method of skeletal age of Fels. Anthropometric measurements included body weight, stature and subcutaneous adiposity. Physical fitness assessment included strength tests in the lower limbs, speed, aerobic endurance and anaerobic power. Technical skills included ball control, dribbling and kicking accuracy. Overall, 65.5% of soccer players were born on the first half of the year (c2= 8.069, p = 0.04); however, in the analysis by category, there was no significant difference in the distribution of birth dates for quartile when compared with the reference population (U-15: c2=6.322, p=0.10; U-17: c2=2.339, p=0.50). MANCOVA revealed no significant differences between anthropometry, biological maturation and physical and
technical performance in both competitive categories. These results suggest that there is a higher proportion of young Brazilian soccer born on the first months of the year, but that RAE does not necessarily constitute an advantage under the anthropometric, physical and technical standpoint. The process of biological maturation of individuals should be considered by coaches in the selection of athletes
The purpose of the present study is to describe the association between chronological age, morphology, biological maturation and sport experience in relation to technical performance in young Brazilian soccer players. Technical, maturation and anthropometric variables were assessed in 119 soccer players, 74 and 45 in the under-15 and under-17 categories, respectively. Data were analyzed using a multiple linear regression model. Adiposity was negatively associated with technical performance regardless the age-category. Weight was negatively associated with technical performance in under-15 and positively with the under-17 category, respectively. In under-17 biological maturation was negatively related to the dribbling test and positively associated with the ball control test. Years of experience proved to be positively associated with technique taught to soccer player in the under-17 category. The explained variance was different between categories. The technical performance of Bra¬zilian soccer players aged 14-to-17 seems to be related to biological maturation, adiposity, weight and years of experience
